XBuild, a San Francisco startup, announced a $19 million Series A funding round to scale its AI platform for the construction industry. Led by N47 with backing from Andreessen Horowitz, the company is launching its first major product, Roofing Proposals. This software aims to reduce the time needed for residential project estimates from hours to under 15 minutes.
The investment highlights a growing appetite for automation in the pre-construction phase. XBuild plans to use the capital to expand its reach beyond roofing into other high-demand sectors such as HVAC, plumbing, and landscaping. By February 2026, the company intends to become a comprehensive operating system for various residential trade contractors.
At the core of XBuild is a unique vibe coding estimation engine that acts as an AI copilot for contractors. The system processes natural language inputs and site photos to generate professional, editable bids. This approach allows users to skip complex spreadsheet work in favor of a more intuitive, conversational workflow.
The platform integrates with major industry players like ABC Supply to provide real-time material pricing. It also ingests data from standard measurement reports like EagleView and Roofr to ensure accuracy. Contractors can offer tiered pricing and collect payments via Stripe, creating a seamless experience for both the builder and the homeowner.
Founded by former Uber and Postmates executives Jahan Khanna and Rob Moran, XBuild combines deep technical expertise with industry knowledge. Co-founder Sharuk Khanna, a civil engineer, helped pivot the team from their previous wildfire protection venture. With over 15,000 projects already completed, the company has proven its ability to save contractors thousands of hours.
Traditionally, the estimation process has been one of the least digitized aspects of the construction world. Many contractors still rely on manual calculations or outdated software that fails to keep up with fluctuating material costs. XBuild solves this by automating the data extraction and proposal generation phases, allowing small businesses to compete with much larger firms.
The professional digital proposals generated by the platform include embedded e-signature capabilities and high-quality visuals. This level of polish helps contractors build trust and increase their win rates on competitive bids. By handling the technical heavy lifting, the AI lets tradespeople focus on their actual craftsmanship instead of paperwork.
As the company prepares for its expansion into concrete and painting next month, it continues to refine its AI-powered residential roofing tool. The goal is to create a unified platform where any trade professional can generate a bid as easily as sending a text. With institutional support from top-tier investors, XBuild is well-positioned to modernize the backbone of American residential construction.
The integration of AI into pre-construction signals the final wave of digitization for an industry that has historically resisted automation. While many construction tech tools focus on back-office management, XBuild targets the revenue-generating first mile where contracts are won or lost. By standardizing complex estimating workflows through an AI layer, the platform effectively lowers the barrier to entry for professional-grade project management, allowing smaller trade businesses to offer a consumer experience that rivals corporate giants.
