BusRight, the student transportation technology platform, announced it has raised $30 million in its latest funding round led by Volition Capital. This investment aims to modernize the massive $900 billion K-12 education infrastructure, which currently serves over 20 million students daily. The capital will be used to scale operations across the United States and accelerate the development of next-generation safety and logistics tools.
The company provides an all-in-one platform that unifies driver navigation, routing, and real-time student ridership visibility. By replacing outdated paper route sheets with digital tools, transportation leaders can build complex routes in just 60 seconds. This efficiency is critical for districts facing severe driver shortages and increasing operational complexity in the public sector.
A core component of the new funding will support the launch of a 24/7 AI-powered student transportation agent and precision mapping intelligence. This AI technology helps dispatchers manage unexpected disruptions while providing parents with accurate ETAs and live tracking through a mobile app. Additionally, the platform integrates NFC-based features to enhance child safety during boarding and off-boarding.
"BusRight is building a category-defining platform in a market that is both massive and mission-critical," noted Tomy Han, partner at Volition Capital, who joins the board. The firm identified a significant technology gap in a sector where routes change daily due to absenteeism and changing custody arrangements. Superintendent Gregory Mott highlighted the financial impact, reporting that the technology saved his district nearly $1 million in the first year alone. The platform is already trusted by nearly one million parents, drivers, and administrators across 36 states. This growth comes at a time when school bus driver employment remains significantly lower than pre-pandemic levels.
The investment in BusRight signals a shift where software is no longer a luxury but a fundamental necessity for public infrastructure. As labor shortages for bus drivers reach critical levels, school districts are forced to replace manual processes with automation and data-driven logistics. This trend mirrors the 'Uberization' of services, where parents and administrators expect the same transparency and efficiency in school transit that they receive from modern consumer delivery apps. By bridging the gap between legacy education systems and advanced tech, BusRight positions itself as the operating system for the nation’s largest mass transit network.
