Todoist has officially launched Ramble, an AI-driven voice feature designed to eliminate the friction of manual task entry. By leveraging advanced large language models, the tool allows users to talk through their thoughts, which are then parsed into structured tasks. This update aims to bridge the gap between fleeting ideas and actionable lists, ensuring no thought is lost to the cognitive tax of typing. The technology behind Todoist Ramble goes beyond basic dictation by identifying intent rather than just transcribing words. It automatically extracts deadlines, project tags, and priority levels from natural speech. Supporting over 40 languages, the system even permits users to switch between languages mid-session without losing the context of the task being created.
Designed for high-friction moments, the feature is categorized into specific workflows such as morning capture and on-the-go planning. Mobile users can access it via a dedicated waveform icon, while desktop users benefit from keyboard shortcuts that prevent disruptive context switching. This allows individuals to clear their minds of "swirling thoughts" while remaining focused on their primary work.
While currently focusing on task capture, future iterations could include deeper AI-assisted project summaries or proactive scheduling. Ramble is available across all Todoist pricing plans, though free users are subject to certain usage limits. Security remains a priority, with the company confirming that audio recordings are processed privately and never stored or used for model training. The launch arrives as Todoist continues its streak of industry recognition, recently securing the top spot as NYT Wirecutter's best to-do list app of 2025. Other accolades from Apple and PCMag highlight the platform's dominance in the productivity space. This new feature reinforces the app’s reputation for balancing simplicity with cutting-edge utility.
A Strategic Pivot Toward Cognitive Offloading
The launch of Ramble represents a move beyond traditional list-making into the realm of mental health and cognitive offloading. By addressing the primary reason users abandon productivity apps, which is the effort required to maintain them, Todoist is attempting to lower the entry barrier for high-stress users. This integration of AI-driven voice parsing signals a broader industry trend where the utility of an app is measured by how little the user actually has to interact with its interface.
