Driving the Future of Workforce Management

Sona, the London-based workforce management platform, closed a $45 million Series B round led by N47. The investment includes participation from Felicis, Northzone, Gradient, and the Italian Founders Fund, bringing the company's total funding above $100 million. This capital injection is designed to fuel an aggressive expansion into the United States and compress a decade of planned product development into just twelve months.

The company focuses on the real economy sectors such as hospitality, retail, healthcare, and logistics. These industries employ over half of the global workforce but have traditionally suffered from fragmented legacy software. Sona provides a unified system of record that combines scheduling, payroll, and HR into one intelligent platform for enterprises like Popeyes and Tao Group.

At the heart of the platform is an AI-powered forecasting engine that builds dynamic staffing models in real time. By analyzing variables such as revenue, weather, and foot traffic, the software predicts optimal staffing levels to boost sales while cutting labor costs. This approach effectively replaces outdated time-and-motion studies that are often expensive and inaccurate for modern businesses.

Sona also recently introduced Forge, a tool that allows companies to build custom agentic applications. This infrastructure enables businesses to maintain their unique workflows while using AI to handle standard operational tasks. CEO Steffen Wulff Petersen noted that while most enterprise software has been transformed by AI, tools for the world's largest workforce remained stuck in the past.

The funding arrives at a critical time as frontline businesses face rising statutory wages and persistent labor shortages. The partnership with N47 aims to position Sona as the definitive operational foundation for organizations worldwide. With a growing team in New York, the company is now poised to challenge incumbent legacy systems on a global scale.

Sona's $45 million Series B signals a major shift in the venture capital landscape, where the frontline economy is finally receiving the technological attention typically reserved for desk-based sectors. For decades, industries like healthcare and hospitality relied on disjointed point solutions, leading to significant productivity leaks and high turnover. By integrating agentic AI into the core system of record, Sona is moving beyond simple automation toward a model where software actively manages operational complexity. This investment highlights a broader industry trend where AI is being leveraged to protect margins in low-margin sectors facing increased labor costs. As Sona expands into the US, it validates the massive market potential for purpose-built enterprise tools that treat frontline staff as a strategic asset rather than a variable cost.
