Sea Limited and Google have formalized an expanded strategic partnership to develop AI-powered innovations globally. The collaboration, announced on February 19, 2026, focuses on Sea’s core business lines: digital entertainment, e-commerce, and financial services. This agreement marks a shift toward agentic AI, which allows autonomous systems to handle complex tasks for users. The partnership was formalized through a memorandum of understanding signed in Singapore.
Under the new agreement, Garena will leverage Google’s AI research to transform game development and player experiences. The initiative aims to enhance productivity in live operations and provide early access to cutting-edge AI research pilots. These tools are expected to create more immersive and responsive gaming environments for millions of users. Garena intends to use these solutions to streamline production workflows and reduce development cycles.
Shopee and Google plan to develop an agentic shopping prototype to redefine the digital retail experience. This system will integrate Shopee’s inventory with Google’s platforms to enable seamless product discovery and autonomous transactions. The goal is to move beyond simple recommendations toward a proactive assistant that handles the entire buying process. This marks a significant evolution in how consumers interact with e-commerce platforms. Sea’s financial arm, Monee, will also collaborate with Google on the open Agent Payments Protocol, known as AP2. This protocol creates a secure framework for AI agents to initiate and complete payments while ensuring user authorization and safety. By providing expert feedback, Monee helps tailor these global standards to the unique needs of the Southeast Asian market. The partners intend to pilot these agentic payment experiences across their respective platforms.
Forrest Li, Chairman and CEO of Sea Limited, stated that AI is the next technology revolution with the potential to transform business and create value. Sanjay Gupta, President of Google Asia Pacific, added that the partnership aims to define the future of gaming and commerce responsibly. Both leaders emphasized the importance of making advanced technology accessible to the digitally underserved. This deepened relationship builds on previous successes like the YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program and the Free Fire League on Google Play.
This partnership signals the arrival of the Agentic AI era, moving away from passive algorithms toward autonomous digital assistants. For the industry, the adoption of the AP2 protocol by a major player like Monee is a critical step in solving the trust barrier for AI-led transactions. By integrating Shopee’s commerce engine directly with Google’s search and AI capabilities, Sea is positioning itself to capture the next wave of zero-friction retail. This collaboration effectively turns Southeast Asia into a premier global testing ground for the future of decentralized, AI-driven digital economies.
