Sateliot has officially opened its largest funding round to date, seeking €100 million to accelerate the deployment of its 5G satellite constellation. The Series C round was presented at the company's Barcelona headquarters with the support of Óscar López, Spain's Minister for Digital Transformation. This capital injection will primarily fund the manufacture and launch of 16 additional low Earth orbit satellites.
The investment aims to complete the company's global Internet of Things coverage and serve as a technology demonstrator for 5G New Radio capabilities. These next generation satellites will enable space based voice, video, and data transmission to unmodified commercial devices. Sateliot expects to close the round by summer 2026 and is currently in the process of selecting a lead investor among industrial and financial candidates.
The Spanish government maintains a significant 18.7% equity stake in the company, highlighting the project's role in European digital sovereignty. Minister López noted that the administration is proud to support a project that integrates the entire cycle of satellite design and control within Spain. The infrastructure is being developed for dual use applications, bridging commercial needs with civil protection and defense requirements.
With nearly €270 million in binding pre-contracts already secured, Sateliot enters this funding stage with strong commercial validation. The company currently serves over 400 clients in 60 countries and has established key roaming agreements with major telecommunications giants like Telefónica and Deutsche Telekom. These partnerships allow the satellite network to act as an extension of traditional terrestrial mobile networks.
CEO Jaume Sanpera emphasized that this round reflects the company's timing and global scale. The capital will help the firm reach its target of having 22 satellites in orbit shortly, with a broader goal of a 100 spacecraft constellation by 2028. Previous backers include Indra, Cellnex, and the European Investment Bank, all of whom have contributed to the nearly 100 million euros raised by the firm since its inception. As the company scales, it continues to receive industry recognition for its technical milestones. Sateliot was recently celebrated as a finalist for the Future Unicorn award and won the GSMA Foundry X ESA 6G Innovation Challenge. The firm is positioning itself to reach €1 billion in total annual revenue by 2030 as global demand for ubiquitous 5G connectivity increases.
The launch of this Series C round signifies the maturation of the Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) market, moving from experimental phases to industrial scale deployment. By integrating directly with existing 3GPP 5G standards, Sateliot avoids the proprietary approach of many satellite competitors, offering an interoperable solution for global telecom providers. The heavy involvement of the Spanish government underscores a strategic shift toward viewing space based connectivity as a vital utility for national security and European digital autonomy. This funding ensures that the transition from narrowband messaging to full 5G New Radio capabilities remains on schedule, potentially making direct to device satellite communication a standard feature for global logistics.
