Rork announced a $15 million Seed funding round led by Left Lane Capital to accelerate its mission of redefining mobile software creation. The San Francisco startup also saw participation from Peak XV, True Ventures, Goodwater, and a16z Speedrun. The platform aims to bridge the gap between creative ideas and technical execution by allowing anyone to build apps through simple text descriptions. These applications are fully functional and ready for deployment on major mobile marketplaces.
The core technology allows users to enter plain language prompts that the AI converts into native iOS and Android code. Unlike tools that create simple web wrappers, Rork generates production ready code using Swift, React Native, and Expo. Its latest release, Rork Max, acts as a web based alternative to Apple's Xcode and is powered by the Claude 4.6 model. This enables the creation of complex features like Live Activities and Vision Pro support without manual coding.
Founders Daniel Dhawan and Levan Kvirkvelia launched the company after identifying a gap in the market for mobile focused AI. While many competitors focused on website builders, the Rork team pivoted to tackle the more difficult technical challenges of mobile development. This focus helped the company quickly climb the App Store charts in the Developer Tools category. Their background as serial entrepreneurs in the mobile space provided the necessary expertise for this transition.
The platform is already creating a new wave of digital entrepreneurs who lack traditional computer science backgrounds. One notable success story involves an 18 year old student who built a wrestling coach app that generates $30,000 in monthly revenue. By lowering entry costs, Rork enables niche creators to launch software businesses in hours rather than months. These founders reflect a broader shift where success is defined by identifying and capturing demand early.
To further its technical capabilities, Rork recently acquired Paperline, an AI application focused on native Swift development. This acquisition integrates senior engineering talent and specialized tools directly into the Rork ecosystem. The move ensures the platform remains at the forefront of the shift toward AI powered engineering. It specifically strengthens Rork's transition toward providing a comprehensive web platform for native app development. The funding will be used to expand the team and refine the platform stability for complex deployments. Managing Partner Matthew Miller at Left Lane Capital noted that mobile is the most valuable surface area on the planet. Rork is uniquely positioned to capture a share of the $160 billion annual consumer spend in the app economy. The company continues to follow its mission of turning everyday consumers into software entrepreneurs.
The investment signifies a massive shift from web-based AI tools toward the more complex mobile ecosystem. By automating native Swift and React Native code generation, Rork is removing the high technical barriers that traditionally guarded the App Store. This move challenges Apple's proprietary Xcode environment and empowers a new class of solopreneurs to compete with established engineering teams. This shift suggests that the primary competitive advantage in software is moving from technical coding ability to creative product vision and market speed.
