Nebius has announced the construction of a major AI factory in Lappeenranta, Finland, which will provide up to 310 MW of dedicated compute capacity once completed. This facility is expected to be one of the largest of its kind in Europe and is scheduled to deliver its first capacity to customers in 2027. The project represents a core pillar in the company strategy to secure over 3 GW of contracted power globally by the end of 2026. This announcement follows the recent expansion of the company existing Finnish footprint in Mäntsälä to 75 MW earlier this year. The multi-building campus will be located on a 100-acre industrial site and will house the latest NVIDIA Blackwell and Vera Rubin accelerated compute platforms. These systems are specifically designed to meet the extreme processing requirements of modern AI training and inference. By deploying such advanced hardware, Nebius intends to serve the accelerating demand for high-performance compute among AI builders and enterprises throughout the EMEA region.

This physical expansion is supported by significant financial backing, including a recently closed 4.3 billion dollar private offering of convertible senior notes. The company also secured a multi-year capacity agreement with Meta valued at up to 27 billion dollars and received a 2 billion dollar investment from NVIDIA earlier this month. These strategic partnerships underscore the company role as a primary provider for hyperscale AI developers seeking reliable, large-scale infrastructure.

Sustainability is integrated into the design of the Lappeenranta facility, which will utilize a closed-loop liquid cooling system to minimize water consumption. Similar to the technology used in Mäntsälä, the cooling system will be capable of recovering excess server heat for injection into the local district heating network. This approach has previously proven successful in reducing carbon emissions and lowering costs for local households, aligning with the company commitment to energy efficiency.

The project is expected to bring substantial economic benefits to the South Karelia region, creating up to 700 skilled construction jobs and approximately 100 permanent high-tech positions. Local officials, including Lappeenranta Mayor Tuomo Sallinen, have welcomed the investment, noting that it positions the city at the forefront of the national AI ecosystem. Through the Nebius Academy, the company also plans to partner with local academic institutions to develop a talent pipeline for the growing regional technology industry.
