Tokyo-based JIJ Inc. said on August 4, 2026, that it raised JPY 840 million, about US$5.2 million, in equity financing led by Global Brain, with Fujitsu Ventures also participating. The company builds a quantum- and AI-enabled optimization platform and plans to use the capital for product work, enterprise deployments, and international growth.

In a company announcement on PR Newswire, JIJ said Global Brain invested through several funds it manages, including KDDI Open Innovation Fund III, ME Innovation Fund, ANA Future Frontier Fund, and KURONEKO Innovation Fund II, alongside Global Brain’s flagship follow-on growth fund. Fujitsu Ventures Fund made a follow-on investment.

Optimization for factories, flights, and networks

JIJ said it has developed more than 60 use cases across energy, manufacturing, transportation, telecommunications, logistics, and other sectors. Its JijZept suite covers problem formulation, solvers, execution, and ongoing improvement. The company also maintains open-source projects, including OpenJij for combinatorial optimization and Qamomile, an open-source quantum programming language, and is developing middleware under a NEDO-backed Japanese government research program.

JijZept AI, launched in beta earlier in 2026, is being built as a cloud AI agent for mathematical optimization. JIJ said agents can iterate on requirements, build models, and run numerical experiments, with an SDK for local agent integrations and planned support for quantum programming.

Founder and CEO Yu Yamashiro said the round reflects confidence that research technologies are moving into day-to-day enterprise operations. JIJ established a UK subsidiary in 2025 and a German subsidiary in 2026, and said it began scaling U.S. activity in 2026 while remaining active in Q-STAR, QuIC, and UKQuantum.

Decoded Take

JIJ is a reminder that Asia’s quieter AI story is often industrial optimization rather than consumer chatbots. Corporate venture arms from KDDI, Mitsubishi Electric, ANA, Yamato, and Fujitsu are betting that classical solvers plus quantum middleware will matter before fault-tolerant hardware arrives. Watch whether JijZept AI converts pilots into recurring production schedules, and whether OpenJij and Qamomile keep the company plugged into the open tooling layer that enterprises actually trust.
