Firmus Inks Landmark Nvidia Deal for Multi-Site Australian AI Factories

Firmus has confirmed a significant multi-year agreement to provide dedicated AI infrastructure capacity at its Project Southgate facility in Melbourne. The deal centers on the deployment of approximately 18,400 Nvidia GB300 GPUs for a leading global technology firm. This hardware represents the high-performance Blackwell Ultra generation designed for massive-scale training and inference.

The Melbourne site is the first of two massive AI factories currently under development as part of the broader Project Southgate rollout. A second greenfield campus in Launceston, Tasmania, is scheduled for completion in late 2026. That facility will host 36,800 Nvidia GPUs and leverage the local renewable energy grid for sustainable operations.

To fuel this rapid growth, Firmus secured a 10 billion dollar debt facility led by Blackstone with participation from Coatue Management. This capital supports a 300 million dollar investment into the domestic supply chain, creating 400 skilled manufacturing jobs. Partners like Maas Group and Benmax are producing data center components locally to ensure rapid delivery.

In the coming years, Australia is positioned to become a major producer and exporter of AI tokens by processing energy into intelligence for global consumption. Firmus Co-CEO Tim Rosenfield noted that this strategy moves beyond traditional commodity exports toward high-value digital production. The company's proprietary immersion cooling technology aims to maximize performance while minimizing resource use at every site.

This agreement is the second large-scale customer contract for Project Southgate, validating the company's model to grid engineering approach. By integrating power, cooling, and networking from the design phase, the facilities are built to handle the density of the latest Nvidia architectures. This co-design strategy allows for future hardware generations to be deployed within the same infrastructure footprint seamlessly.
