Cognichip announced an oversubscribed $60 million Series A funding round today to scale its Artificial Chip Intelligence (ACI®) platform. Led by Seligman Ventures and SBI Investment, the financing brings the company's total capital to $93 million. This investment signals a massive shift toward automating the complex world of semiconductor design through foundational AI research.

The round includes the appointment of Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan and Seligman Ventures’ Umesh Padval to the Board of Directors. Tan, a semiconductor veteran who previously led Cadence Design Systems, joins forces again with Cognichip founder Faraj Aalaei. Their partnership historically produced significant industry success, including two high-profile IPOs at Aquantia and Centillium Communications.

Cognichip is tackling the industry's most persistent bottleneck where hardware development lags behind exponential software growth. Its ACI technology uses physics-informed foundation models to solve design problems with human-level cognitive ability. By focusing on logic and physical reasoning rather than general text, the platform understands the rigorous physical and thermal constraints of silicon.

Current semiconductor projects often span five years and cost hundreds of millions of dollars to complete. Cognichip claims its full-stack approach can slash development timelines by 50 percent and reduce costs by 75 percent. These efficiencies are critical as the industry faces a projected shortfall of more than one million skilled workers by the end of the decade.

Unlike tools built on top of general-purpose language models, ACI operates as a unified system for planning and orchestration. The startup is already collaborating with more than 30 semiconductor companies, including many of the global top 20 industry leaders. This traction demonstrates a significant appetite for AI that can handle digital, analog, and foundry environments simultaneously.

With the fresh injection of capital, the team aims to reach its goal of human-level autonomous design. The company remains focused on turning traditional serial workflows into concurrent and highly automated processes. This evolution ensures that the hardware powering the AI era can keep pace with the software innovation it supports.
