Arkadia Space has been selected by the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator to receive up to €14.5 million in strategic funding. This historic milestone makes them the first Spanish space company to join the prestigious program, which supports high-impact startups across the continent. The funding package consists of a grant and equity investment designed to scale their innovative green propulsion technology.
The selection process was exceptionally rigorous, with Arkadia emerging as one of only 61 companies chosen from a pool of 923 applicants. This capital injection will primarily accelerate the commercialization of the company’s hypergolic bipropellant propulsion line. While their monopropellant systems are already active in the market, this new phase focuses on higher-thrust solutions for complex orbital maneuvers.
Founded in 2020 and led by CEO Francho García, the startup is dedicated to eliminating the industry’s reliance on toxic hydrazine. By utilizing high-concentration hydrogen peroxide, Arkadia offers a safer and more sustainable alternative for satellite and launcher manufacturers. Their technology aims to reduce operational and refueling costs by more than 60 percent compared to legacy systems.
The company recently reached a major technical milestone by validating its propulsion system in orbit. This achievement followed a launch aboard a SpaceX mission, where the hardware performed successfully in a vacuum environment. With flight heritage secured, Arkadia is now moving into an aggressive phase of industrial growth to meet increasing global demand.
Future developments include the announcement of several major commercial contracts currently in the pipeline. The team operates out of a state-of-the-art test center in Castellón, where they continue to refine their ARIEL and DARK thrusters. As the space sector moves toward Responsible Space for Sustainability, Arkadia is positioned as a key supplier for the next generation of orbital logistics.
Arkadia’s selection by the EIC Accelerator signals a strategic pivot in the European space industry toward environmental sustainability and chemical sovereignty. As the European Union tightens regulations on toxic propellants like hydrazine, the demand for high-performance green alternatives has moved from a niche requirement to a commercial necessity. By securing this funding, Arkadia is positioned to lead the transition, ensuring that European satellite operators and launcher companies have access to domestic, ITAR-free propulsion solutions. This investment validates hydrogen peroxide as a viable, low-cost successor to traditional hypergolic fuels, potentially reducing mission fueling costs by over 60 percent while strengthening the continent’s independent access to space.
