OpenAI Acquires NextSlide as Presentation Startup Joins ChatGPT Team
OpenAI has acquired NextSlide, the AI presentation startup that turns prompts and documents into editable decks, with founder Ahmed Beshry's team now working inside ChatGPT. Terms were not disclosed.
OpenAI has acquired NextSlide, an AI presentation startup whose team is now working on ChatGPT. Financial terms were not disclosed. Founder Ahmed Beshry said the public announcement arrived a few months late, the deal closed earlier in 2026.
NextSlide built a product that turns prompts, notes, documents, or research into polished, editable presentations. On the company’s site, Beshry described the mission as making visual communication more accessible so more people can express ideas clearly. That same framing now sits inside OpenAI’s consumer and workplace stack.
Why presentations matter to ChatGPT
Slide decks remain one of the most stubborn productivity workflows in enterprise software: high volume, high polish expectations, and still mostly manual. Absorbing a team that already ships prompt-to-deck generation lets OpenAI deepen ChatGPT’s creative and office tooling without building that surface from scratch.
Beshry previously co-founded Caper AI, the cashier-less checkout company acquired by Instacart in 2021, a second exit that fits OpenAI’s pattern of folding founder-led product teams into ChatGPT rather than running acquired brands as stand-alone apps.
“By joining OpenAI, we will continue pursuing that same mission: building AI products that help people create, communicate, and turn their ideas into meaningful work.” Ahmed Beshry, founder, NextSlide
Decoded Take
OpenAI’s NextSlide deal is less about owning a niche slide app and more about owning the last mile of workplace communication. Models already draft memos and summarize meetings; decks are where ideas get sold. Folding presentation generation into ChatGPT tightens that loop for knowledge workers who live in documents, email, and boardrooms.
It also fits the wider August 2026 consolidation wave, platforms buying focused AI product teams instead of licensing features. Watch whether NextSlide’s UX patterns surface as a first-class ChatGPT mode, and how rivals like Google and Microsoft respond inside Docs, Slides, and Copilot.
