Anthropic Labs officially launched Claude Design on April 17, 2026. This new product enables users to collaborate with AI to build polished visual work, including interactive prototypes, slide decks, and marketing assets. The tool aims to bridge the gap between initial ideas and professional production by making complex design tasks accessible to everyone. The platform is powered by the newly released Claude Opus 4.7 model, which features enhanced vision and reasoning capabilities. This model allows Claude to understand complex visual layouts and maintain context across long design sessions. Access is currently rolling out to Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers through a research preview.
Users can start projects by describing their needs or importing existing brand assets. Claude Design automatically builds a design system by analyzing a team's codebase and design files to ensure brand consistency. Refinements are handled through natural language, inline comments, or custom adjustment knobs for layout and spacing.
Early adopters like Datadog and Brilliant have used the tool to turn static mockups into functional interactive prototypes. Product managers can also generate wireframes that are ready for implementation via Claude Code. The system supports exports to major platforms including Canva, PowerPoint, and standalone HTML files for easy sharing.
The launch positions Anthropic as a direct competitor to established design software giants like Adobe and Figma. While Google offers similar capabilities with its Stitch tool, Anthropic is leaning into deep ecosystem integration and conversational refinement. The partnership with Canva highlights a shift toward collaborative AI workflows rather than isolated software silos.
The arrival of Claude Design marks a significant shift in the generative AI sector from text and code generation toward full-scale creative orchestration. By integrating design systems directly from codebases, Anthropic is challenging the traditional boundaries held by Figma and Adobe. This move suggests that the future of design lies not in manual pixel pushing but in high-level intent directed by natural language. It forces a market consolidation where design tools must either become AI-native or serve as secondary platforms for AI-generated drafts.
