WELLINGTON, 27 March 2026. Xero and Anthropic have announced a multi-year partnership to bring advanced AI intelligence directly into the hands of small business owners. This collaboration integrates Claude's reasoning capabilities into the Xero platform while allowing financial data to be used within the Claude.ai environment. It represents a significant step in making high-level financial intelligence accessible to millions of users. The integration is the first of its kind, offering a bidirectional flow that helps users manage finances wherever they prefer to work. It aims to solve common business challenges such as tracking cash flow gaps and managing overdue invoices through real-time data analysis. Business owners will no longer need to switch between multiple tools to get a clear picture of their financial health.
The partnership introduces Claude-powered automation to Xero's AI superagent, JAX. This tool will proactively analyze revenue and profit performance to suggest specific actions for business owners and their bookkeeping advisors. By automating these workflows, JAX can handle complex tasks such as identifying unpaid invoices and predicting future cash flow. Users can also access Xero insights directly inside the Claude.ai platform for detailed business planning. This feature allows for the combination of live financial data with external market trends to model various business scenarios and critical year-end positions. This capability provides small businesses with the type of analysis typically reserved for large companies with dedicated CFOs.
Data responsibility serves as a foundation for this alliance, ensuring that sensitive information remains protected. Financial data shared between the platforms is used only for active sessions and is never utilized to train Anthropic’s proprietary AI models. This commitment to privacy aligns with Xero's established responsible data use policies.
Xero’s own engineering teams plan to use Claude and Cowork to speed up their internal product development. This internal use of the technology is expected to bring new features to the market more efficiently over the coming years. By leveraging these tools, the company aims to enhance its software development lifecycle and provide better value to its subscribers.
These new integrated features are expected to become available to customers in the next few months. The move reflects a broader shift toward agentic AI systems that perform complex financial tasks autonomously under human guidance. Both companies are focused on delivering a digital partner that provides clarity and helps businesses focus on the future.
This partnership signals a move toward agentic workflows in the financial sector, where AI acts as a digital partner rather than just a search tool. By linking Xero's structured financial data with Anthropic's reasoning layer, the industry is witnessing the democratization of CFO-level intelligence for small businesses. It highlights a future where software boundaries are porous, allowing strategic planning to occur securely across diverse platforms.
