New Partnership Aims to Digitize Trade

The Hashgraph Group (THG) and Teleport have announced a strategic partnership to develop a Digital Customs Documentation System (DCDS). This initiative focuses on digitizing the customs lifecycle for cross-border e-commerce trade across Southeast Asia. The system uses Hedera distributed ledger technology to enhance speed and transparency for high-volume logistics.

AI at the Forefront of Customs Accuracy

A central feature of the new system is the integration of AI-assisted Harmonised System (HS) code validation. This technology helps automate and verify product classifications before shipments reach border checkpoints. By improving classification accuracy at the source, the partners aim to reduce the common delays and disputes that often plague international shipping.

Solving the Documentation Crisis

Recent research indicates that 43 percent of organizations face shipment delays caused by customs friction. Additionally, 41 percent of companies struggle with complex HS code requirements and non-harmonized regulatory compliance. The DCDS addresses these challenges by creating a shared digital source of truth that reduces manual errors during multi-party handovers.

Blockchain for Legal Certainty

The system leverages Hedera's Consensus Service to capture immutable records of shipping events. It also integrates with the TradeTrust framework to ensure that digital records carry legal weight across international jurisdictions. This combination allows for paperless, tamper-proof trade records that strengthen risk assessments for customs authorities.

Future Rollout and Scalability

Teleport, which moved over 167 million parcels in 2025, plans to finalize the proof of concept by the first half of 2027. The project will initially focus on Malaysian cross-border lanes and high-volume domestic air routes. Once proven, the system is designed to scale across land, air, and sea logistics platforms globally.
