New Funding to Scale Behavioral AI

Sequen AI officially emerged from stealth today, announcing a $16 million Series A funding round co-led by White Star Capital and Threshold Ventures. This brings the startup's total capital to $22 million as it aims to redefine how enterprises interact with consumers using its proprietary Behavior Design Engine. The funding will support the growth of a 14-person team featuring talent from DeepMind, Meta, and Anthropic. Led by former Etsy executive Zoe Weil, Sequen AI utilizes Large Event Models (LEMs) to predict and shape user actions in real-time. Unlike traditional personalization that relies on historical snapshots of user attributes, these specialized neural networks analyze sequences of events to anticipate the next move. The technology functions like a persuasive guide, offering users exactly what they need at the precise moment they need it.

Challenging the Tech Giants

For years, platforms like TikTok and Netflix have dominated user attention through dense, real-time behavioral data. Sequen seeks to level the playing field by allowing enterprises with smaller data sets to achieve similar mathematical efficacy. The platform processes over 10 billion monthly requests with sub-25ms latency, providing the kind of ranking and discovery power previously reserved for hyperscalers. The business impact is already evident among Fortune 500 clients. Sequen reports that its first five enterprise customers saw a combined incremental revenue lift of over $162 million within just seven months. Notable successes include Fetch Rewards, which recorded 20% net revenue growth in less than two weeks after deployment.

Privacy-First Infrastructure

Built for a post-cookie world, the platform operates without relying on personally identifiable information or user profiles. Instead, it focuses on live event streams such as clicks, scrolls, and hovers. This identity-agnostic approach ensures compliance with global privacy standards while maintaining a high level of relevance through three core APIs for Recommendations, Search, and Discovery. Seed investors Greycroft, Vinyl VC, and Correlation Ventures also participated in the latest round. As the company expands, it plans to make every consumer-facing application behavior-optimized, providing a single endpoint for ranking and personalization that replaces fragmented legacy infrastructure.

The rise of Large Event Models marks a significant shift from Large Language Models that generate text to AI that drives specific business outcomes. As privacy regulations tighten and third-party cookies disappear, Sequen offers a future-proof solution that prioritizes in-session intent over historical tracking. This transition suggests that the competitive advantage in e-commerce is moving away from knowing who a customer is and toward understanding what they are doing right now. By offering this specialized infrastructure, Sequen is positioning itself as the necessary backend for any consumer application looking to replicate the addictive relevance of social media giants without their massive data requirements.
