Pony AI and ComfortDelGro have reached a pivotal stage in their collaboration, securing approval from the Land Transport Authority to start by-invite autonomous rides in Singapore. This deployment in the Punggol district represents the final hurdle before the service transitions to a fully public-facing commercial operation. It marks a critical success for the international commercialization roadmap for Pony.ai. The service operates along a 12-kilometer route in north-east Punggol, linking residential hubs like Punggol Northshore to major transit and shopping centers. By offering direct access to the Punggol Coast MRT station, the robotaxi service aims to cut down commute times by up to 15 minutes compared to existing public transport options. A full loop takes approximately 55 minutes to navigate through the local amenities.
A Strategic Alliance for Urban Mobility
This milestone builds upon a strategic partnership initiated in 2024, combining Pony AI’s proprietary Virtual Driver technology with ComfortDelGro’s extensive fleet management experience. While Pony AI provides the software and hardware, the local transport giant ensures operational excellence and regulatory compliance within the city-state. The collaboration follows a successful joint pilot previously conducted in Guangzhou.
Scaling the Dual-Engine Strategy
The Singapore launch is a central pillar of Pony AI’s dual-engine growth strategy, which balances domestic expansion in China with aggressive international scaling. With recent breakthroughs in unit economics and cost reductions, the company is on track to deploy thousands of vehicles across twenty global cities by the end of 2026. This expansion reflects a maturing business model that has already reached breakeven in top-tier Chinese markets. This move comes amid a competitive landscape as other autonomous players also eye Singapore’s transit market. During this invite-only phase, the partners will collect critical rider feedback to refine operations and ensure the technology meets the high safety standards required for a broader rollout.
