Mintlify Raises $45M Series B to Build the Knowledge Infrastructure for AI Agents

Mintlify announced a $45 million Series B round led by Andreessen Horowitz and Salesforce Ventures, valuing the San Francisco-based startup at $500 million. This brings the company's total funding to $67 million as it transitions from a developer documentation platform into a specialized knowledge layer for the AI era. The round included participation from Bain Capital Ventures, Y Combinator, and several prominent strategic investors.

Founders Han Wang and Hahnbee Lee identified a massive shift in how information is consumed, noting that nearly 50% of documentation traffic now comes from AI agents rather than humans. This change makes documentation the primary interface through which AI models understand and interact with software products. To meet this demand, Mintlify is reinventing documentation as active infrastructure rather than static content.

The company is using AI to automate the creation and maintenance of these knowledge bases. Features like Workflows and MCP support ensure that documentation stays synchronized with code changes in real time. These tools prevent the common problem of outdated information leading to AI hallucinations or incorrect agent behaviors.

To support this vision, Mintlify recently acquired the retrieval-augmented generation infrastructure firm Trieve to enhance its search and data retrieval capabilities. The platform now helps companies feed accurate, structured data directly into their internal and external AI agents. This integration ensures that every system of record remains consistent across the entire organization.

The new capital will be used to scale the team aggressively across engineering, sales, and marketing roles. Operating out of their San Francisco office, the team aims to build the infrastructure required for the next decade of software development. Currently, Mintlify powers documentation for over 20,000 companies, including industry leaders like Anthropic and Microsoft, reaching more than 100 million users annually.
