Microsoft has unveiled major updates to Dragon Copilot at HIMSS 2026, transitioning the tool into a unified AI clinical assistant. The platform now integrates work-related context from Microsoft 365 alongside patient data to streamline healthcare workflows. With over 100,000 clinicians already using the service, these advancements aim to reduce administrative burdens and return focus to patient care.

A key feature of the update is the introduction of Work IQ, which allows the AI to understand collaboration across emails, files, and chats. Clinicians can now query clinical data and administrative information within a single interface, eliminating the need to switch between disparate applications. This contextual awareness enables the assistant to read screens and expand notes instantly based on user prompts, which helps move care teams faster.

The launch of the Microsoft Marketplace for AI apps allows healthcare organizations to deploy specialized third-party agents directly within the Dragon environment. Partners such as Regard and Canary Speech provide tools for automated diagnosis suggestions and vocal biomarker analysis. This ecosystem approach transforms Dragon Copilot from a documentation tool into a comprehensive clinical operating system that scales across various medical settings.

Nursing workflows received a significant boost with new ambient flowsheet capture capabilities designed for the bedside. The AI can listen to patient interactions and automatically populate structured data fields, such as those for medication administration or lines and drains. This reduces manual data entry and allows nurses to spend more face-to-face time with those in their care, improving the overall patient experience.

For radiologists, integration with PowerScribe One helps summarize prior reports and surface relevant history before dictation begins. The platform has also expanded its global footprint, now supporting 58 languages for conversation capture across nine countries. Microsoft is ensuring quality through the PDSQI-9 standard, a validated instrument for evaluating AI-generated clinical documentation to ensure accuracy and safety.
