Google announced today that Search Live is now available to users in more than 200 countries and territories. This expansion brings interactive, multimodal AI search to over 90 languages across Android and iOS devices. Users can now engage in fluid, back-and-forth conversations using both their voice and camera to explore the world around them.
The global rollout is facilitated by the release of Gemini 3.1 Flash Live, a sophisticated audio-to-audio AI model. This new engine allows for more natural dialogue by detecting acoustic nuances such as pitch and pace. It also features improved noise filtering to ensure reliability in busy environments, such as city streets or crowded offices.
To access the feature, users simply tap the Live icon located beneath the search bar in the Google app. Once active, the system provides helpful audio responses and continues the conversation with follow-up questions. For visual context, users can enable their camera to ask questions about objects or tasks right in front of them, such as how to assemble furniture.
Search Live is also deeply integrated with Google Lens, allowing for real-time dialogue about the world captured through the viewfinder. This allows for complex troubleshooting or learning moments by pointing the phone at a physical object. The experience includes on-screen citations and web links for those who wish to verify information or read more in-depth sources.
Beyond consumer products, Google is offering the Gemini 3.1 Flash Live model to developers via the Gemini Live API. This allows third-party creators to build voice-first AI agents with real-time reasoning and multimodal awareness. Early adopters are already using the technology for AI design companions and accessibility devices for older adults.
This global expansion signals Google's aggressive push to transition from a traditional search engine to a proactive, multimodal AI assistant. By embedding Gemini 3.1 Flash Live into the core search experience for billions of users, Google is moving toward a zero-click conversational model where answers are provided directly via audio. While this increases user convenience, it creates a potential crisis for the publishing industry as organic traffic to websites may decline. This shift forces a total rethink of SEO strategies as the platform prioritizes real-time, interactive responses over external link clicks.
