San Jose-based Frore Systems has officially entered the unicorn club after securing $143 million in Series D funding. This latest round values the thermal technology pioneer at $1.64 billion, bringing its total capital raised to $340 million. Led by MVP Ventures, the investment aims to accelerate the global rollout of cooling solutions designed specifically for the high-intensity AI era, spanning from the cloud to the edge. The company is tackling the heat problem, which has become a primary bottleneck for AI performance as compute demand triples. Frore Systems has developed what it calls the AI Thermal Stack, a comprehensive cooling architecture for both massive data centers and compact devices. Their flagship LiquidJet and AirJet platforms are designed to replace legacy fans and mechanical pumps with semiconductor-style precision and efficiency.
LiquidJet represents a significant leap in data center infrastructure, utilizing 3D short-loop jetchannel technology. This multi-stage liquid cooling approach allows GPUs to run significantly cooler while increasing AI token processing speeds by roughly 4 percent. By reducing weight and power usage, the system helps hyperscalers maintain high compute density without the typical energy penalties and water waste of traditional cooling methods. For the edge, the company offers AirJet, the world’s first solid-state active air-cooling chip. This technology uses ultrasonic vibrating membranes to move air, allowing high-performance AI chips to operate in silent, dustproof, and ultra-thin enclosures. It effectively eliminates thermal throttling in consumer electronics and industrial gateways that previously struggled with the intense heat generated by modern processors.
Top-tier investors including Fidelity Management & Research, Qualcomm Ventures, and Mayfield Fund participated in the latest round. Leadership at MVP Ventures noted that thermal architecture is rapidly becoming one of the most important layers of the modern technology stack. CEO Dr. Seshu Madhavapeddy emphasized that traditional technologies cannot keep pace with the current AI revolution and that advanced cooling is required to unleash full performance potential. Headquartered in Silicon Valley with manufacturing in Taiwan, Frore Systems is positioning its cooling hardware as foundational infrastructure. The company’s patented technologies are already being integrated by major OEMs and system builders worldwide. As AI workloads scale exponentially, these thermal platforms will likely determine the physical limits of next-generation compute performance.
The rise of Frore Systems signals a fundamental transition in hardware design where thermal management is no longer an accessory but a core compute component. As NVIDIA and other chipmakers push thermal design power limits toward 1,000W and beyond, the industry is hitting a thermal wall that traditional fans simply cannot climb. By applying semiconductor manufacturing techniques to cooling, Frore is essentially turning heat management into a solid-state science. This shift is critical for the long-term sustainability of AI because it enables the density required for massive AI factories while significantly cutting down on the water and power consumption typically associated with legacy hyperscale cooling.
