Google Chrome Launches Skills to Automate Gemini AI Prompts With One Click

Google announced a significant update to its desktop browser on April 14, 2026, with the introduction of Skills in Chrome. This feature allows users to transform their most effective Gemini AI prompts into reusable, one-click tools. The goal is to eliminate the repetitive process of re-entering the same instructions when visiting different websites or performing frequent tasks. Users can create a Skill by saving a successful prompt directly from their Gemini chat history in the browser sidebar. Once a Skill is saved, it can be triggered by simply typing a forward slash or clicking the plus button. This functionality enables the AI to process the content of the current page or even multiple open tabs simultaneously for side-by-side comparisons.

A Library of Ready-Made Tools

To help users get started, Google also launched a curated Skills Library with more than 50 pre-built workflows. These templates cover various categories including shopping, productivity, and wellness. For example, a user can instantly calculate protein macros for a recipe or extract key specifications from multiple retail pages to find the best deal. Every Skill is fully customizable, allowing people to rename their tools and assign unique emojis for quick identification. Advanced users can also fine-tune the underlying prompt instructions or choose between different Gemini model tiers to balance processing speed with output depth. This flexibility turns the browser into a personalized automation hub for digital research.

Privacy and Availability

Security remains a core focus of the new rollout. Google requires manual confirmation before any Skill takes a sensitive action, such as adding an event to a calendar or drafting an email. The feature is currently rolling out to desktop users on Mac, Windows, and ChromeOS who use the browser in US English, with cloud synchronization supported across all signed-in devices.
