Norway Leads European AI Infrastructure Expansion

Bitdeer Technologies Group has announced a landmark agreement with Norwegian contractor Data Center Installations AS (DCI) to finalize the development of the Tydal Data Center. The 180 MW facility is slated to become the largest operational AI data center in Norway and one of the most significant in Europe by installed capacity. Completion of the massive conversion project is currently expected as early as December 2026.

The project focuses on co-location services specifically designed for Nvidia's upcoming Vera Rubin AI technology. This infrastructure represents a major strategic pivot from legacy Bitcoin mining toward high-performance computational services. The design follows strict Nvidia reference standards to ensure optimal performance for complex agentic AI workloads and next-generation inference tasks.

Haakon Bryhni, Chairman of Tydal Data Center, stated that this transformation is a cornerstone of Bitdeer's global strategy to meet explosive AI demand. He noted that the project will keep the company at the forefront of the AI revolution while creating substantial local value. The move allows the company to repurpose an existing power footprint for more capital-efficient growth and faster deployment.


Strategic Partnerships and Sustainable Operations

DCI was selected for the project due to its extensive experience with critical infrastructure for leading Nordic data center operators. As a subsidiary of Sparc Group AB, DCI will manage end-to-end design, installation, and commissioning of the technical systems. The contract represents a significant milestone for the contractor with an estimated value of approximately NOK 1 billion.

Beyond raw computing power, the Tydal facility integrates environmental sustainability into its core operations. Located at the Kirkvollen industrial site, the data center plans to channel excess heat to support local food production on neighboring properties. This circular economy approach aligns with the growing demand for greener industrial practices and sustainable development in the Trøndelag region.

Bitdeer is currently executing similar massive conversions across its global portfolio, including sites in Ohio and Washington. These efforts aim to capitalize on the widening gap between the global supply and demand for AI-ready data centers. The company manages a global power capacity of roughly 3 GW across four continents, positioning it as a primary player in the evolving AI supply chain.
