AWS Pledges $100 Million to Expand Global Education Access Through Cloud and AI

Amazon Web Services has committed up to $100 million in cloud and AI technology through 2029 to support education equity across the globe. The program focuses on providing resources to organizations that serve students facing barriers like high costs and limited digital infrastructure. By offering technical expertise and AWS credits, the company aims to help nonprofits and ed-techs scale their impact.

In the first year following its re:Invent 2024 launch, the initiative has already issued $22.7 million in credits. More than 300 organizations in 40 countries are currently using these tools to build digital libraries and AI tutors. Notably, 76% of these participants are integrating machine learning into their learning platforms to better serve their communities.

Global projects are already seeing tangible results. In Pakistan, the AlifLaila Kids Digital Library provides over 2,000 titles in multiple languages to 20,000 families. In Brazil, an AI-driven platform called GenieX helps 600,000 students in São Paulo prepare for critical national exams through personalized study plans.

The initiative also addresses numeracy and STEM skills. In the United Kingdom, AWS infrastructure powers the National Numeracy Challenge, which has supported over 600,000 registrants since 2019. Across Africa, the Pan-African Robotics Competition uses a virtual platform to teach coding and robotics to 2,500 students in the digital economy.

North American educators are also benefiting through Building 21 and its Beacon Learning platform. This system uses AI-driven feedback to help students focus on real-world projects and competency-based progress. The goal is to reach 30,000 learners and provide them with the skills needed for a rapidly changing job market.

These diverse applications show how technology can dismantle long-standing educational divides. By providing the tools for innovation, AWS is helping create more pathways to opportunity for the next generation of problem-solvers.
