Anthropic introduced a suite of updates to Claude Cowork and plugins today, allowing businesses to build customized AI ecosystems. These updates enable enterprise admins to create private marketplaces for distributing specialized agents across different departments. This move shifts Claude from a general assistant into a role-specific partner capable of executing complex workflows within a secure environment.

A key highlight of the release is the new ability for Claude to work across Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Currently in research preview, this feature allows the AI to pass context between applications to complete large projects. For example, a user can ask Claude to run an analysis in Excel and immediately transform those findings into a polished presentation in PowerPoint.

Admins now have access to a unified Customize menu that consolidates plugins, skills, and connectors in one location. This interface simplifies the setup process by guiding users through a series of questions to tailor the AI to company needs. Organizations can even use private GitHub repositories to source their custom plugins during the current private beta phase.

The update expands the connector library to include popular tools like Google Workspace, Docusign, and Slack. These integrations ensure that Claude can access the data necessary for tasks like drafting offer letters or coordinating engineering incident responses. By connecting to existing software, the platform helps teams move faster without replacing their current specialized tools.

Specialized plugin templates are now available for specific job functions like Human Resources, Finance, and Design. These templates were designed alongside industry practitioners to ensure the terminology and outputs reflect real-world professional standards. New finance-specific tools support everything from equity research to complex investment banking deal workflows.

To support enterprise governance, Anthropic added OpenTelemetry support for tracking tool activity and costs. Admins can manage which connectors are bundled into plugins and handle per-user provisioning for better security. These features provide the visibility required for large-scale AI deployment across global organizations.

The introduction of private marketplaces and cross-app orchestration signals a move away from generalist AI toward specialized agentic systems. By allowing enterprises to build their own internal tool directories, Anthropic is addressing the primary hurdle of AI adoption: the need for context-aware, secure, and departmental-specific utility. This strategy positions Claude as a central operating layer that links fragmented corporate data and software, effectively turning the AI into a coordination engine for the modern workforce. Industry leaders are now shifting their focus from simple chat interfaces to digital employees that can execute multi-step projects across the entire corporate tech stack.
