AEON360 and Google Cloud Redefine Commerce Through AI

AEON360 and Google Cloud have announced a strategic multi-year partnership to develop an AI-driven continuous commerce ecosystem across Southeast Asia. This initiative focuses on agentic commerce, where intelligent software agents assist customers in real-time. The collaboration officially launched on April 16, 2026, with an initial focus on transforming the Malaysian market. At the heart of this digital transformation is the unification of AEON retail, finance, and lifestyle data. By utilizing Google Cloud’s BigQuery, the group is building an enterprise knowledge graph to reconcile customer identities across all platforms. This foundation allows the system to recognize a shopper’s intent and preferences instantly, regardless of which AEON service they use. The ecosystem relies on Gemini Enterprise for Customer Experience to deploy specialized AI agents. A dedicated shopping agent will act as a digital concierge, processing text and images to build carts and manage stock availability. Simultaneously, a customer experience agent provides 24/7 support while guiding human staff through complex inquiries.

This technology integrates bespoke financing and reward options directly into the shopping journey. Shoppers can access personalized installment plans or cashback offers the moment they discover a product. This frictionless flow is designed to reduce consumer drop-off and encourage customers to consolidate their spending within the AEON network.

To support this rollout, the two companies are establishing the AEON360 Innovation Foundry in Kuala Lumpur. This center will focus on upskilling AEON employees with Google Cloud certifications and technical fluency. Teams at the Foundry will develop and scale new AI solutions for merchants and suppliers within the broader ecosystem. AEON360 is also adopting the Universal Commerce Protocol, an open standard that allows AI agents to work across different payment providers. This move facilitates future integrations, such as allowing customers to chat with AEON brands directly on Google Search. These interactions will be securely backed by Google Wallet for authorized transactions. According to AEON360 Chairman Daisuke Maeda, the goal is to shift from digital interactions to AI agents that perform complex tasks on behalf of customers. The ambition is to create a cohesive entity that serves consumers intelligently at every point of engagement. This roadmap ultimately includes expanding these capabilities into other major Southeast Asian markets.

This partnership represents a significant shift from traditional personalization to autonomous agentic action in the retail industry. By combining retail inventory with financial services under a single AI-driven umbrella, AEON360 is pioneering the concept of embedded finance as a primary customer acquisition tool. This move signals that the future of competition in Southeast Asian commerce will not be won through isolated apps, but through interoperable ecosystems that utilize a continuous thread of context to follow the consumer across every digital and physical touchpoint.
